Steps to make Choco Chikoo Ice-cream:
- Heat 50 ml milk ream on low heat, then add the chocolate chips. Keep this ganache aside till it cools down. Whip it after it has cooled completely.
- Wash, peel, depending and crush 6 chikoos to a fine paste. Cut the remaining 2 chikoos to small pieces.
- Whip the cream till soft peaks. Blend in the ganache and whip them together.
- Add the chikoo paste, condensed milk and whip till combined.
- Gradually blend in the chikoo pieces
- Transfer to a rectangular box lined with butter paper. Tightly close the box and freeze for minimum 6 hours. In between after 2 hours whip the cream once.
- Serve topped with chikoo pieces. I did not have any, still it tasted great.
Chikoo has brown fuzzy skin and is more oval-shaped than its Central American cousins, though some develop pointed ends. Chikoo, or Manilkara zapota, is the fruit of an evergreen tree native to Central America and grown since ancient times. Most modern cultivation of the Chikoo tree is for the purpose.
