The ingredients needed to make Toor Dal rasam:
  1. Take 1 cup toor Dal
  2. Prepare 3 cups water
  3. Make ready 1 onion
  4. Prepare 1 tomato
  5. Get 1 carrot
  6. Make ready 3-4 green chillies
  7. Get 1 tablespoon roasted coriander seeds
  8. Take 1 tablespoon roasted cumin seeds
  9. Make ready Pinch fenugreek seeds roasted
  10. Take as required Soaked tamarind
  11. Get Pinch turmeric powder
  12. Get to taste Salt
  13. Prepare 3-4 cloves garlic
  14. Take Pinch jaggery
Steps to make Toor Dal rasam:
  1. Slice onions, tomato, curry leaves and garlic.
  2. Pressure cooker toor Dal for 6 whistles and mash it by adding some water.
  3. Soak tamarind for 20 mintutes
  4. Take a pan and pour oil, once the oil heats add mustard and cumin seeds, once it starts spluttering add onions, curry leaves, green chilli, again and turmeric and salt. Roast it for couple of minutes in low flame and add carrot, tomato, keep the stove in low flame and close it with a lid, open it and see, if the tomato cooked properly add the roasted and ground coriander, cumin and fenugreek powder into that and also, mix the tamarind well and pour tamarind water into it.
  5. Boil it in low flame and then add toor Dal, pour water and adjust the consistency, put jaggery, put salt if required again, and add sliced garlic into it and boil it in low flame and turn off the stove. Take the rasam into a bowl and serve hot with rice.
