It is simply smoked goat meat cooked in a spicy hot pepper sauce. Asun is typically made with Smoked Goat Meat but that's not easy to come by in these parts so, we usually settle for raw goat meat. Asun is simply smoked/grilled/roasted peppered goat meat. It is classified as a "Nigerian Small chop" and served at parties as an appetizer, alongside other finger foods.

Instructions to make Asun (spicy peppered goat meat):
  1. Wash the meat thoroughly, put in a clean pot, add half of an onion, 2 seasoning cubes, 1 spoon of curry powder and the thyme
  2. Allow to cook in its juices till meat is cooked. Add a little water if necessary. Set aside.
  3. Put a frying pan on heat and pour in the cooking oil. Once it's heated up, fry the meat then set aside.
  4. Meanwhile wash the peppers and roughly blend with the half of an onion.
  5. In clean pot, pour in 5 tablespoons of the oil used in frying the meat and put on heat. Add chopped onions and the roughly blended pepper mix. Add 1 seasoning cube, a pinch of salt and 1 spoon of thyme. Stir and cover the pot. Allow to cook till pepper is well fried.
  6. Pour in the fried meat, mix thoroughly and add a little of the meat stock. Cover the pot and reduce the heat. Allow to simmer for 3-5 mins.
  7. Cut the green pepper into strips and add to the asun. Stir and turn off the heat.
  8. Enjoy.
